  • Run Bridge-to-Bridge race (6.5km) in less than 35 minutes. The race is on March 2. Ran it in 31:22 and won!
  • Improve throwing strength. Not much progress has been made on this front I’m afraid.
  • Improve attacking skills in netball.
  • Run a 10km race.  I’m running a quarter marathon (10.55km) on April 6.
  • The Mondo Beyondo goal – Run a half-marathon. This doesn’t feel Mondo Beyondo anymore.  I think I’ll run a half in Spring or Autumn 2009.
  • Long term, 10km in 45 minutes.
  • That makes the real Mondo Beyondo goal running a marathon.  I can’t see this happening for many years, at least until I’ve finished having children.

I am totally in love with Nike+.  I’ll spare you the details, the short of it is that Nike+ combines my love of running, music, statistics and pretty graphs in one neat little package.  You can check out how I’ve been running by following this link or the link in the sidebar.  If WordPress would let me I would definitely have the pretty flash graphs right here.  I’m very tempted to switch to blogger even though WordPress is far superior in every other way.

I was getting tired of running on the treadmill so I ventured outdoors. I ran what I thought was the 5km cross country track the high school students use. Of course, I’d never ran it myself because girls don’t run 5km you know.

It was nice to be running outdoors, away from the stuffiness of the garage and constant watching of time spent and distance covered. Since I’ve picked up running again I have only been running 3-4km so I expected this run to test me. When I reached the finished I was tired but when I checked my watch I was surprised. 27 minutes 24 seconds. A good seven minutes faster than I expected to run.

Figuring I must have messed up the route I jumped in the car and took a drive. Turns out the distance was about 300 metres short. What a pleasant surprise. Rejuvenating too, I was starting to feel discouraged with my progress on the treadmill. I’m really looking forward to my first race since high school. My goal is to finish in less than 35 minutes, but ideally I would like to be closer to 30 minutes. I’m not sure if that’s a realistic, but I’ve got nine weeks before the race to find out.

19 minutes 47 seconds!  Be more excited for me than my husband.

I took a run on Wednesday and I felt like ass.  I knew during the warm up that I wasn’t going to be going any where fast.  It took me ~22 minutes to cover the 3 kilometers.  I was disheartened.

This morning I was woken up early and didn’t have high hopes for todays run.  However I started out on pace and was doing OK.  Five minutes in I was feeling great and thought I’d shit it in.  Ten minutes in and I was tiring but still feeling good.  At twelve minutes I was stuffed.  My stomach was tightening up, my legs were getting heavy.  I pushed on to fifteen minutes and took a walk for one.  I was disappointed that today was not going to be the day.

After my break I resumed the pace.  I didn’t feel very rested.  I had about 400 metres to go.  Resisting the urge to walk again I decided to go even faster.  I was doing alright for 100 metres, then I started to think I wasn’t going to be able to make it.  Less than a running track to go.  I kept going ignoring the cries from my legs, counting down the distance to go.

19 minutes 47 seconds.  Anyone would think I set an Olympic record.  Eyeroll.

Took a run this morning.  3 kilometers in 21 minutes.  Sweat is dripping off me.  My legs are heavy.  I ran the first half right on pace, but the second half really got me.  I took two breaks to walk and catch my breath then a sprint in the last 500 meters.  I use the term sprint loosely, as I had already ran 2.5 kilometers.  I hope that with some more fitness work I’ll be able to cross my first fitness goal of the list within a fortnight.

Back on the wagon 18 November, 2007

It’s time to get back into some serious exercise. Although I have been exercising regularly since April, I have been taking it easy and it seems I have forgotten how to push myself past my comfort zone. Early on I had legitimate reasons, I’d only just had a baby and still nursing. But now that both those reasons are past their use by date I’ve got to admit to myself that I’ve been slacking. What I need are some good goals. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

  • Run 3km in 20 minutes. I’m close to being able to do this now, a couple of weeks of regular running and I should be able to cross this off the list.
  • Run 5km in 30 minutes. A longer term goal, but something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Back when I probably could have done this I was only running shorter distances.
  • Improve throwing strength. I have really weak passes in netball and need to work on my throwing arm. Not sure how to do that yet.
  • Run a 10km race.
  • The Mondo Beyondo goal – Run a half-marathon.

I am about to head out to run around like a headless chicken on a stinkin’ hot day trying to hit a tiny yellow ball in the middle of the strings but ultimately with the frame. Why o why can I not learn how to say no?

I hope you are going to have a lovely Saturday afternoon too.
