If you are going to leave your baby for an extended period with your mother and have provided milk stored in the excellent Avent Via container, do not forget to also leave the teat and adapter so that said mother can feed said milk to said baby.

Week nine was a bust. I haven’t done any running at all. Too many excuses. I’ve been so tired. Baby girl had many night wake ups. I started work. I didn’t want to miss out on feeding my baby bananas. It’s no biggie though. Week nine is just running 30 mins three times a week, and that is what I plan to do every week. Must get back into it tomorrow.

I found a solution and I’ve been to work twice this week. The trial with my friend went very well last week so I decided to go to work on Tuesday for a few hours. The nanny said everything went well so I went back again today and plan to work Tuesdays + Thursdays from now on. I’m only doing a few hours a day right now, but I plan to do up to six hours a day maybe.
I got home today and the baby was having a real howl because she was starving. I had asked the nanny not to feed her after 12:30pm because I would be home at one, but when that girl is hungry, she is hungry. I was a little late and the nanny decided to give the babe some more milk as I got home. I won’t do that again.
Baby girl doesn’t sleep much for the nanny, only some short stints in the pram, but she has really cut down on her naps lately and her mood isn’t too affected so I’m not concerned about that. It was amazing how much easier my decision about work became once I was comfortable with the child care arrangements. I didn’t miss my girl too much while I was at work, but once I got home and picked her up my heart just about popped.

Week seven was up, down and up again. I ran really well during the first workout and was really impressed with my pace. I did the second workout the day after an intense netball training and my legs were very tight, struggle to sit down and get up tight. I was still feeling a little sore on Sunday and wasn’t expecting much, but with a bit of pushing I ran about the same pace as the first workout. I was hap-hap-happy and now I’ve only got two weeks to go!

I went to “interview” a possible day care lady last week. When I say interview I really just mean going to visit her home and have a bit of a chat. She was OK but I didn’t walk home thinking that everything was great and going back to work would be fine. It was a little hard to tell my boss that I wasn’t super impressed with this lady and I’m going to look at other options because she looked after his kids. It’s not that there was anything wrong with her, it really just brought it home that I’m not ready to leave my little girl to go to work.
There are a ton of other things going on too that complicate my choices. It’s not just a matter of do I want to go back and I poured it all out to my boss on Friday. It had the desired effect of giving myself a bit more time to work out what I’m doing. It’s becoming somewhat clearer to me that while I would like to work and I enjoy working from home I don’t really want to put my baby in care so I can work in the office.
In the interests of exploring all options I’m going to see what other family day care is available. I’ve also asked a friend to trial being a mothers helper for me. Basically she will just come in for a few hours a day and entertain the kiddo while I’ll work. I’m hoping that it might even go well enough that I could head into the office for a couple of hours and leave them at home. Maybe I would be able to convince my boss that I don’t really need to be in the office if I can be contacted during certain hours on certain days. We will see, this friend doesn’t have a lot of experience looking after kids so it will be a learning experience for her. She might not even like it.
