C25K Update 27 February, 2006

Week six finished! This week’s running was really good. Running outside is a lot more enjoyable than on the treadmill, but it is handy to be able to run even if it’s 40 degrees outside. At netball training on Friday night we did a 4K run. I decided to run/walk and really push myself in the runs. Having other people to run with helped with that too and I think I ended up finishing the 4K in the same time it has been taking me to do a 3K run/walk. I do tend to take it easy when I’m by myself though, I’d rather finish the program than get sick of it because I’m pushing myself too hard.

Negotiating my return to work 25 February, 2006

I have always intended to go back to work. Prior to starting my maternity leave, I had the idea of working a total of 20 hours per week with 10 of those hours in the office. I thought I would return to the office about March. I enjoy my job and like my co-workers. I went on maternity leave three weeks before my due date. Well all I really did was stop full time work. I was in the office the first day of my leave. I also worked the morning I before I had my baby. But not because I really, really love my job. I just can’t say no.

I found out last week that my preferred childcare option is unavailable and now I find myself floundering and unable to make a decision. I’m not sure if I’m comfortable with other childcare options. I believe my return to work and my baby spending time with others would be beneficial to us both. I find entertaining a four month old all day long exhausting. Sometimes I think my some of my brains got swept away with the placenta. The money would be nice but we can survive without it. I was reading some old journal entries and I was surprised to read that I almost hated my job before I got pregnant. I had forgotten about that. I just don’t know what to do.

TV I Miss 21 February, 2006

I’m beginning to think that any TV show I like is doomed to be cancelled. Even pre-emptively cancelled before I’ve even started watching.

I miss Firefly. Great characters, good dialogue and funny. I didn’t start watching until it had already been cancelled. I’m not sure it ever made TV here, if it did it would have been on late at night.

A couple of weeks ago I caught Wonderfalls on a Saturday afternoon. As I sat watching and enjoying they crazy stalker episode I thought that this show is too good, there is now way it could still be in production. The time slot gave it a way a little too. Sure enough, I googled and cancelled. Bummer.

Rather belatedly I’ve started watching Arrested Development. I’m about halfway through season two. Loving it. So I was damn pissed when I read that it has been cancelled too over at The Dot. I don’t know, maybe it jumped the shark in later seasons.

C25K Update 19 February, 2006

Week five finished! I ran around the levy today (~3K). Back in December I couldn’t even run the whole way so I’m very happy to be able to run all the way around now. I did it in 22min 42sec. My next goal is to get that down to less than 20min.

I’m looking forward to a rest day tomorrow.  Four straight days of running is too much.  My calves are reminding me why I shouldn’t slack off on stretching.

I just finished workout 2 of week 5 of the C25K.  I must do workout 3 tomorrow, then on to week 6.  This week running has been really good, even if I did leave it right until the end so I had to go without rest days.

Last night I went to pre-season training for netball.  I was able to keep up with training, yay!  I was expecting to struggle a bit because my SIL is coaching and she is a bit of a fitness freak.  It looks like the club is going to have stacks of players again this year, there were enough to field two teams last night and we haven’t even got to compulsory training.

Napping with my daughter.  Waking up to my daughter farting in her sleep.  Watching my daughter wake up, turn over, recognise me and smile.

Giving this a go. I’m not sure if I’ll use it much, but we will see.  Prizes if you can think of a snappy blog title.
